This is an exciting opportunity to provide non-medical support, including counseling, consultation, and outreach to eligible faculty, staff, parents, children, and youth.
As a Military Family Life Counselor, you will play a crucial role in helping military families navigate the unique emotional and environmental challenges associated with military life. Your support is essential in helping children and youth develop resilience and adapt to important life transitions.
Your Responsibilities:
- Work within Child Development Centers (CDCs) with children aged 0-5, as well as in after-school care for school-aged children and teens.
- Engage in activities with children and youth, providing support and guidance to staff and parents, and modeling effective behavior management techniques.
- Offer presentations focused on developing social skills and emotional learning essential for early childhood development.
- Encourage creativity and positivity using approved materials.
- Build strong relationships with parents and families by participating in community and installation events.
- Assist children during transitions, such as moving to new schools or homes.
- Participate in in-service training and other activities as assigned.
- Report trends and issues observed at the installation to Team Leads.
Benefits:
- No insurance filings, progress notes, or treatment plans required.
- Provided with an iPad for simple digital reporting, ensuring no personal or private information is collected.
- Enjoy paid federal holidays, unlimited behavioral healthcare training, and reimbursement for job-related license renewal fees.
- Eligibility for participation in a 401K retirement plan.
- Access centralized support through a Counseling Center of Excellence featuring best practices, expert speakers, and advanced resources.
Additional Duties:
- Respond to emergent situations across various locations on a military installation.
- Navigate both indoor and outdoor environments, including uneven terrain and varying weather conditions.
- Comply with specific site requirements to work effectively on military installations.
The job environment includes approximately 60% indoor activities and 40% outdoor engagements, within child development centers controlled by the Department of Defense. You will actively participate in child interactions, often sitting on the floor for extended periods.
